Presentation: Educational Alchemy: Transforming Constraints into Catalysts for Change

Casey, a wife and mother of two, is a school psychologist with a decade of experience working in public schools with children ranging from pre-K through high school. Raised by her mom in Western Montana and Sandpoint, Idaho, Casey is a product of public education. At 18, Casey moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she spent 15 years attending concerts, exploring the world, and meeting her best friends. A big fan of humans and fueled by a lifelong interest in power, identity, peace, and potentiality, Casey holds degrees in Political Science and Women/Gender Studies from DePaul University, later pursuing her Ed. S in school psychology. Casey worked for Chicago Public Schools for four years.

After the birth of her children, Casey yearned to return to the familiar lakes and mountains of her childhood and to be nearer to her family. She and her family moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2021. Shortly after, Casey found herself on the brink of leaving education. Yet one evening, this profoundly shifted when she learned the origin story of our inherited public education model. She was struck by how our inherited model’s intention and design conflict with the brain’s fundamental needs for learning. Learning the history reignited her passion to stay in public schools and work for positive change.

Casey believes in children, human wisdom, and the beneficence of the earth! She envisions a future where understanding our past empowers us to recast our educational model to center the humans within it and the communities they touch. She believes changing our educational system can birth a safer, more just world for generations to come.
